Photography & Insecurities

I usually don't like trying new things because I don't like the idea of failing. I have a huge insecurity about not being perfect. And when you do things for the first time it usually means you make mistakes. You fall. You mess up. It's not perfect. Sometimes it can be even down right messy. But I am learning that this is okay because there is beauty in imperfection.

So how does this relate to photography may you ask?

Well I got a DSLR camera for Christmas and I have loved it. I love being able to capture precious moments and preserve them in a picture frame by my bed or on a canvas hanging on the wall. But my photography skills are no where near perfect. I am a beginner at best. And sometimes my insecurities get the best of me and tell me I have no reason taking pictures because they won't turn out as good as the professionals. But I have been learning to turn that negative voice in my head off. My pictures may not be perfect but that is okay because they are mine.

If any of you out there have tips and tricks you have picked up over the years that you want to share with me I am all ears!

I'm linking up with Jenni and the rest of the girls for today's Tuesday Tea.

  1. Valarie, thank you for joining us today! I am with you 100% on the photography end - I have had to work hard to just be confident with my photos and remember that they "are mine". I haven't actually broken my DSLR out in a while but you've inspired me to get out and take some new photos this week! I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday xo

  6. I got my DSLR for my birthday in July 2012 and I'm still learning! There's lots of great tutorials on Pinterest (I know I've pinned a few!) but it really is a lot of practice. Just keep taking pictures from different angles, and you will see a difference! My biggest tips are practice and try to take pictures in the best light possible (usually sunrise/sunset) but I've gotten some great ones in the middle of the day. Still working on my night photography...thanks for linking up!

  8. The photo of your dog is quite possibly flawless!! I love the look that the "fancy" camera's give...my sister has a DSLR camera and some of the photos she took at my wedding were seriously photographer quality!! I know there are a lot of workshops for this particular camera - so you may want to check some out in your area!!
